Directorate Community Development's mandate is to provide support and maintain community services in the following functional areas: Cleansing (Refuse removal, street cleansing, night soil and vacuum services); Parks & Recreation; Sports Arts and Culture; Libraries; Museums; Health and Environmental & Integrated Waste Management.
The director therefore oversees the development and maintenance of a clean and green city. The development and maintenance of cultural heritage and the rendering of a uniform cleansing service to all residents.

The Community Development Department of the City of Matlosana is dedicated to creating and maintaining a clean, sustainable, and healthy environment for all residents. We are responsible for essential services including waste management, parks and recreation, cemeteries, environmental health, and sustainable environmental practices throughout Klerksdorp, Jouberton, Alabama, Kanana, Khuma, Stilfontein, Hartbeesfontein, and surrounding areas.

Acquisition of new waste collection vehicles and equipment to improve service delivery efficiency and expand coverage to previously underserved areas.

Most residential areas receive household waste collection once per week, with recycling collection every second week. Please ensure that bins are placed outside your property by 7:00 AM on your designated collection day.
To arrange burial services at municipal cemeteries, please follow these steps:

The municipal landfill is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please note that certain items (electronic waste, hazardous materials, etc.) require special handling and may incur additional fees.

Currently, the recycling program covers most residential areas in Klerksdorp, Jouberton, Kanana, and Stilfontein, with plans to expand to all areas by 2026. For areas not yet covered by the curbside program, recycling drop-off points are available at shopping centers and municipal buildings.
